APrimary source: standard text, official statistics, company filingStated as fact with attribution
BReputable secondary source, or vendor documentationAttributed as reported
CEstimates, ranges or industry commentaryExplicitly labelled as an estimate

Where we disagree with a source

When two credible sources give different figures, we publish the range and explain the difference, for example a definitional change in what is counted. Presenting a single number without its definition is the most common error in industry reporting.

Updates and corrections

  • Updates that add information keep the original date and note the addition.
  • Corrections that change meaning are labelled and dated.
  • Superseded standards references are replaced, with a note on the new edition.
  • Articles are never deleted to remove an inconvenient fact.

Information is provided for initial research. Verify specifications, pricing, policies and standards against the original source before making decisions.
