Robot Topic Windows: Preserve Short Fault Episodes

Record collection-window identity, counts and extremes to preserve short robot-topic disturbances that a long-window average can obscure. This guide concerns robot integration and delivery review. The proposed observations are editorial assessment guidance, grounded in the linked original documentation and subject to the deployed version. They do not describe an on-site test of a particular machine or establish whole-system acceptance from a single interface response.

Treat the window as part of the result

Interpret each value with collection boundaries and settings. Identical averages across different window lengths can describe different operating phases. In the referenced topic-statistics feature, the publishing period also determines the collection window. Record that setting when changing it, rather than comparing chart values as though the observation context remained identical.

For this review, identify the delivered device, software and configuration revisions first. Record unsupported, disabled and untested capabilities separately. Evidence from another model is useful context, but cannot establish what the delivered combination actually provides. Keep the original input beside the settings used to interpret it.

Retain an independent episode marker

Keep an application event or original-sample location for the brief disturbance, then relate it to the aggregate window. Normal and unusual phases can share one window, diluting a change in the mean. Preserve the complete range and the local observation rather than deleting normal samples to make a chart appear more dramatic.

Retain the original input and the reason for the decision, rather than a successful screenshot alone. Change only the variables agreed for the comparison, and keep the before-and-after configuration. List conditions that were not exercised explicitly; they should not silently become part of the accepted operating range.

Review count and extremes together

Retain measurement count, minimum, maximum and available variation alongside the mean. A sparse window should not receive the same interpretation as a well-populated one. Extremes help reveal local changes, but cannot reconstruct the ordering of an episode without original samples. State that limitation when the aggregate is the only surviving record.

Use the three illustrated observations as starting questions, rather than as diagnoses of an installation that has not been inspected. Check record completeness, units and identity before selecting the next observation. An unresolved result is more informative than a confident explanation assembled from missing fields or unrelated test runs.

Compare window settings in pairs

Compare settings under equivalent workloads and record the monitoring cost as well as the resulting time resolution. Shorter windows change report frequency and samples per result. Choose a configuration the project can interpret and retain. A shorter window is not an unconditional improvement if the observation cost or sparse results undermine its intended use.

Let the site owner choose an approved isolated way to exercise relevant exceptions. Record normal operation, the exceptional condition and recovery separately. The purpose is to establish how the application recognises and explains untrustworthy input, without requiring production equipment to act on deliberately invalid results.

Deliver joinable time ranges

Deliver window configuration, output, episode markers and corresponding samples, with the clock used to join them. Revisit analysis when monitoring settings change. Historical window means can describe aggregate observations, but should not be presented as a reconstruction of every fine-grained disturbance when the underlying event order was never retained.

Deliver the configuration, representative samples, result table and unresolved questions together. Agree who reviews subsequent changes. The receiving team should be able to select one conclusion and trace it back to its input and decision path without relying on the original author to reconstruct the missing steps.
