Performance Terms: Repeatability, Accuracy, Resolution

Published: Published on Zhilianhai

Definitions

TermDefinitionMatters for
RepeatabilityConsistency of returning to the same pointTaught positions
Path accuracyDeviation from the commanded pathSealing, welding, cutting
ResolutionSmallest commanded incrementNot the same as accuracy
Absolute accuracyHow close the robot gets to a commanded coordinateOffline programming, vision

Practical consequence

A robot can be highly repeatable but inaccurate. Taught programming cares about repeatability; anything driven by coordinates cares about accuracy, which is improved by calibration.
